ST. PHILIP STREET
This addition to a single-family home juxtaposes the existing creole aesthetic with the modern, crisp design, rather than trying to recreate the past, and is an ode to the lush, tropical backyard.
The addition holds a new master bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom was designed with a walk-in shower surrounded by strategic openings in order to see the tropical foliage in the yard while showering.
The transition space from the kitchen to the new addition is a small sitting area that also serves as a gallery wall, along with the hallway, for the client’s extensive art collection.
Additionally, the client requested an indoor/outdoor space for entertaining, which manifested in the porch extended the full length of the addition. A brick patio on the ground level will be added in the future.
Ceiling heights of this space soar to 14 feet, and at an angle to allow the large transom windows above the doors in the hallway.
The homeowner was also the builder, and was able to incorporate quality materials that were budget-friendly such as the stained Poplar wood bathroom counter tops and the Alaskan Cedar hardwood floors.
