Rock-n-Sake
Old Metairie, Louisiana
Sited along one of the most popular pedestrian thoroughfares in Jefferson Parish, Rock-n-Sake was formerly an abandoned convenience store prior to its extensive renovation.
The design of Rock-n-Sake was one of the first test cases for the newly adopted Jefferson Parish Commercial Parkway Pedestrian Overlay Zone (CPZ-Ped) to encourage a more traditional pedestrian-oriented streetscape. Working closely with owner and the Jefferson Parish zoning and permitting departments, NANO utilized the highly stringent zoning codes and parking limitations to the client’s advantage by utilizing over 20 parking spots from the adjacent empty lot that was also acquired by the client prior to the renovation.

The client tasked NANO with an exterior renovation for their restaurant that would help keep the forward progress of the street’s revitalization going. To achieve that goal, NANO designed an attractive outdoor seating area positioned for optimal street views. The patio is covered with clear, corrugated Plexiglas that allows for maximum natural light.
Today, Rock-n-Sake is a well-known dining staple within the Old Metairie neighborhood, and the building’s reimagined character has further propelled the commercial enhancement and successful growth of Metairie Road.
