Displaced from New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Terri and Ian were engaged by HKS to perform consulting and specialized designed services for the Lucas Oil Stadium for the Indianapolis Colts. The project consisted of the design of over 150 suites and club lounges, a retail, dining, and concessions area, and overall egress and code review. Lucas Oil Stadium was named Sports Facility of the Year by the Sports Business Journal/Sports Business Daily in 2009, and is the recipient of various national awards, including the 2009 ACEC Grand Award for Excellence in Engineering and the 2008 Midwest Construction Overall Project of the Year.

“We all benefited from the talent and tenacity that the Dreyer’s brought to our team. It was an incredible experience to witness.” – Mark Timm, HKS

NANO was challenged to design a field level experience that would alleviate the lower ceiling condition due to stadium seating above on par with the experience of on the field viewing, while providing the ability to control the internal acoustics of game/event noise levels. Through the incorporation of retractable glass walls facing the event space, occupants can either experience the full ambiance of the event or further customize the suites to enjoy a more quiet and intimate experience.
The color and material palettes were integrated to reflect team, ownership, branding, and overall facility design considerations while taking into consideration the lifetime costs for maintainability and heavy wear.
