First Grace Methodist Church
New Orleans, Louisiana
Located within the Mid-City Historic District at the corner of Norman C. Francis Parkway and Canal Street, First Grace Methodist Church suffered severe damage during Hurricane Katrina, with over five feet of flooding.
The renovation of this historic 26,000-square-foot space encompassed the grand sanctuary, dormitories, administrative offices, and an early childhood development center. NANO was responsible for designing all new millwork, selecting finishes and furniture, and upgrading the building to meet current building codes. This comprehensive renovation addressed critical code compliance issues, including updating egress routes, sprinkler systems, fire doors and alarms, walls, and engineering systems.
This two-fold civic project not only revitalized the interior spaces but also ensured that the building met modern safety standards through thorough code reviews and upgrades.
