Fakier Jewelers is a family-run business in Houma, Louisiana that values personal relationships with their customers and employees. NANO designed this 5,000 SF store so Fakier Jewelers could strengthen those bonds, showcase their merchandise more effectively, and connect with the entire community. The new building rejuvenates the brand’s image while establishing a strong presence in the center of downtown Houma. Located at the intersection of two busy thoroughfares, the building is optimized for visibility, reinforcing the store's connection to the city and its identity as a family-owned business.

From the outside, it exudes a formal quality and domestic scale inspired by the traditional architecture of shotgun houses and retail storefronts in New Orleans. The welcoming front façade has tall windows with secure glazing and steel plantation that offer a more attractive approach to security. A narrow yet hospitable colonnaded porch provides a gathering space for annual Mardi Gras celebrations and other store events.
Inside, expansive spaces are separated by farmed openings, evoking a spacious family home, with flooring made from local pine and Calcutta marble. The employee spaces continue this theme, with a full-service kitchen designed to both prepare and serve home-cooked meals or host catered events.
The showroom, however, recalls a contemporary art museum. NANO strived to redefine the showroom interactions and experiential components from a typical retail ‘behind-the-counter’ set-up to a more collaborative, high-end, curated environment. The merchandise is elevated on custom-made glass-covered plinths and illuminated by specially tuned lighting optimized to accent the brilliance and color of the precious gems and stones. Employees can easily open the displays and place the jewelry on a retractable leather-inlaid table to give customers a closer look at a piece. NANO strategically designed and customized each display component to effectively complete the comprehensive retail experience for both the staff and clientele.
