Founded in 1895, the Venice Biennale is a prestigious annual exhibit that showcases the work of artists, architects, universities and thought leaders from around the world. NANO is the only New Orleans-based architecture firm to have ever been invited to participate in the Venice Biennale.
Hosted by the European Cultural Centre, a nonprofit organization that promotes thought and cultural exchange among architects, universities, emerging businesses, artists and developers, the theme for the exhibit is TIME SPACE EXISTENCE.
NANO will be investigating the cultural, geographical, and spatial similarities that New Orleans and Venice share; topics such as rising tide, Mardi Gras (and the Mardi Gras Indians), Venice Carnivale, and architecture as cultural identifiers amongst the theoretical idea of time space and existence.
